How to Make Anything!
on Apr 4th - 2006 by Brian
Update: presentation page with slides and links.
Sorry for switching things up a bit, but we hope you'll be pleased with the recent changes. This week I will be giving a presentation on "How to Make Anything." Literally. Anything. Well, there might be a few things you can't make right away... but with these basic tips, you'll be able to start your own laboratory for crazy experiments and unique projects.
The presentation will be broken down in to three basic categories,
tools, the workplace, and an introduction to some of our projects.
More specifically:
*Tools will cover everything from dremels to screwdrivers; wires to
soldering irons. There are several essentials that no reasonable lab
can do without. We'll let you know which tools were most important and
what you can expect to spend on each of these tools.
*The workplace is a very important part of making things. We call it a
"lab" but that's because we like to pretend we're mad scientists.
You'll need a large flat surface and lots of lighting at the very least.
*Finally, we'll go over some basic projects to get you started. Learn
how to make some easy things like... a magnetic card stripe reader out
of an old tape player, a guitar out of a cigar box, a jet engine out
of a glass jar. Once you get a taste of these projects, you'll be
ready to start looking for your own ideas to experiment with.
Throw me an email with any questions you may have. Hope to see you there!

Please look forward to seeing even more fun events in the future!

New Look, Same Great Taste

I might have stolen that line from a large soft-drink manufacturer but it applies here as well.
The website has undergone a lot of changes that were put into effect with a vote at this past meeting. We hope you enjoy the new look of the Computer Club website. If you don't, well, go change it. If you've got some mad Design/HTML/CSS skills and you want to make your own theme, feel free. Just copy the HTML code from the main website and point it to your own style sheet. If you're interested in this and need help getting started, email me at hacknight@yakko.cs.wmich.edu.
