Book Checkout System Instructions

These Instructions are made so that Computer Club members are able to checkout books easier. This new checkout system has been implemented to keep track of who has what book, so please notify a Computer Club officer if you notice others removing books from the room with out following this procedure. This will help keep fines to a minimum. The current checkout policy can be found here. Thank you, and enjoy your reading.
At Yakko, launch some type of terminal window (xterm, gnome-terminal...). Then type:
$su books
...enter password...
$cd ~
$./bookckout

This should launch a gui frontend for the book check out system. Please note that, as of now, thier is not a command line interface for bookckout.

Then scan the book with the cuecat scanning device. The encoded data will fill in the "Barcode" text box. If the book does not have a barcode on it then simply type in the ISBN and the "depress" the toggle button (the 'toggle button' should say 'Type it in?'). Next, click the button that should read 'Scan and Click Here!'.

If the scanner did not pick up all 18 numbers in a modern barcode the 'Barcode' text box will let you know. In case of that situation, erase the text in the text box and the scan again. bookchkout will then see if the book is in the database. If the book is not in the database, all the text fields will be empty. You can then fill them in and click 'Add Book'

If the book is already in the database, the program will let you know if the book has been checked out or not. Look at the button in the middle of the window and make sure its what you expect to be thier. If you are checking the book out, make sure you fill in the 'User Name' text box. When ready to finish click the middle button one more time and you are free to go.
